The Project
The Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery offers high standard surgical care to children and adults suffering from acquired or congenital heart diseases.
Located in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, the Salam Centre is presently the only specialized and free-of-charge facility in an area of 11.5 million square kilometers (three times the size of Europe) with a population of over 300 millions.
The Centre, operative since April 2007, is managed and run by EMERGENCY, Italian Non Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to provide medical and surgical assistance to the victims of war and poverty.
Since its foundation in 1994, EMERGENCY has built capacities in the health sector and treated over 8 million patients in Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Cambodia, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Iraq, Italy, Lybia, Nicaragua, Palestine, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Serbia, Sri-Lanka, Sudan.
All EMERGENCY's facilities are high standard and completely free of charge.
