Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery

The Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery

The Salam Centre is run and managed by the Italian based humanitarian organisation EMERGENCY.
Since April 2007, the Centre provides high standard, free of charge paediatric and adult cardiac surgery.

Clinical Activities

Most patients come by themselves to the Salam Centre, without been referred by physicians or medical facilities. After an initial triage, patients with known or potential cardiac problems receive further cardiac investigations.

From April 2007 to October 2011:

Patients triaged 35,211
Cardiological examinations 26,852
Number of hospital admissions * 5,902
Number of patients admitted 4,759
Number of surgical operations ** 4,060
Number of patients operated 3,865
Cath Lab procedures 992

* The difference between the number of admissions and the number of patients admitted is due to repeated admissions for diagnostic investigations or medical treatment.

** The difference between the number of surgeries and the number of patients operated is due to re-operations and staged procedures.
