The Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery

The Salam Centre is run and managed by the Italian based humanitarian organisation EMERGENCY.
Since April 2007, the Centre provides high standard, free of charge paediatric and adult cardiac surgery.

Valve surgery

From April 2007 to June 2017, 5,413 patients underwent surgical procedures for acquired valvular heart diseases (VHD), as follows:

Multiple Valve Surgery 2,365 (43.7%)
Mitral Valve Surgery 2,416 (44.6%)
Aortic Valve Surgery 628 (11.6%)
Tricuspid Valve Surgery 5 (0.1%)


Most patients with valvular heart diseases (VHD) had involvement of more than one valve necessitating multiple procedures, as showed in detail in the following tables:
